Blog Post 2

Did You Know
The united states is getting behind on learning and technology compared to other countries. China population will soon be able to speak English more than any other country in the world. English is a second language for china and they are mastering how to speak it more than any other country. This should be an eye opener for all Americas. We as Americas should also be willing to learn a second language so that we don't fall father be hide.

Another issues is that technology is always changing and becoming better that before. Technology is becoming so advance that it is teaching people and training them for jobs that are not even available yet. The united states rank lower than other country in the used of broadband internet. This means that other country are learning more faster than us and when the jobs do become available they will be consider first because they know the most. Instead of complaining that other countries are getting all of the good jobs we need to be willing to learn in the same manner that they are. We need to take technology serious or we will get left behide.
Mr.Winkle Wakes
Technology has changed a lot over the last hundred years and its is being used everywhere except where it is needs to be used the most( in schools). If you stop and take a look around then you would notice things that you would have never imagine seeing a hundred years ago.My grandmother always tells me times have changed things are not like they were when she was growing up.My grandmother is right things are changing due to the improvement of technology.

After viewing the clip " Mr.Winkle Wakes" I begain to remember how things were when I was back in school. We had outdated computers that we didn't use to much.I believe that if we would have had better technology and more teachers willing to use the technology then school would have been more exciting. Now in days there is so much technology that schools could be using such as Skype, smart boards and other educational tools. The problem is most schools can't affords these types of equipment due to lack of funds. There are many ways around this issue. Schools should try to get a sponsor or have fundraisers to raise money for the equipment. I also believe that teachers should be required to take course annually to keep up with the changes so that they can better educate their students.

The Importance of Creativity

Education that today's youth receives is meant to be used for the future. The education curriculum is set up to teach people how to get jobs.Although this is thought to be a good practice, it leaves out room for creativity.Schools spend most of the day teaching subjects such as math, English and writing.Students have little to no time in music and arts classes. Students are taught that they have a greater chance of getting a job by learning math and English then they do by learning art.

Overtime students began to lose their creativity. There is than old saying "if you don't uses it then, you lose it".Kids should be given more time in music and art class so that the can embrace their creative sides.Younger kids love being creative and they are not afraid of being wrong.
If given the change there is no telling what they could become. Teachers could teach required courses and allow student to be creative at the same time. One way of doing this to allow the to be creative though projects.

A Vision for 21st Century Learning

A few of the main arguments of the video are that Schools are not keeping up with the latest technology and that students would learn better if the were doing something that they could relate to such as playing a video game.I believe that school should use technology to help teach the class. All students don't learn the same way. Instead of lecture some student prefer hands on learning.Video games are a great way of allowing students the chance to learn and have fun at the same time without even trying.

Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts

Involving technolgy in a class room can create a whole new world of learning for many students.learning through a computer could help the student that struggle to learn from their teacher and understand the lesson better. Students get to learn for themselves and also teach the class a few of the things that they have learned. Some lesson also teach the teachers.

The best thing about using technology in the classroom is that most program online are free. The only thing that the school have to provide is the computer. Teachers can also allow their student to bring their own computer if computers are limited in class.Students could also bring cell phones with internet access and digital cameras to school.Allowing student to used these devices will cut down on the cost to print papers.

  1. Kabrina,

You have written a thorough post, but be sure to proof read your blog assignment before posting!

You need to be sure to add an image to every blog post. You need to make clickable links to all the articles and videos you discuss in your blog post so that readers can refer to them. Also, you need to add your picture to your class blog! If you have any problems you can come by the lab and we can help you out!

I am not trying to overwhelm you, we just want to see everyone succeed in this class and these are some of the components to succeeding. Keep it up, things will get easier. I promise!

  2. Hi Kabrina!

I am a fellow student in EDM 310. We had quite a lot to watch this week for our blog assignment! It is obvious that you spent a lot of time making sure you viewed them all and put forth a thoughtful response. I thought you had some good ideas in your post. We definitely need to incorporate more time for our kids to be creative in the classroom. You mentioned that students should be able to study more art and music, which I believe is true. You also mentioned that teachers could use more projects in the core curriculum activities. This is a good point since many times our classrooms focus on individual work and testing. I also thought your idea of teachers taking annual technology courses is FABULOUS! The only way to modernize our educational system is to make sure our teachers are able to use any new technologies that become available. If we spend a lot of money putting the technology in the school and no one can use it, then it is all for naught!

One thing I do want to point out about your post is that you need to spend more time proofing what you have written. You have such good ideas and content, but they are getting lost at times with the grammar and word usage you have chosen. I know time is premium because I am a mom, too. It is hard to find the time to proof, edit and rewrite. However, I think if you make the time to do these things you will be rewarded with a quality, professional blog.

  3. Kabrina,
I think you definitely pointed out all the key points from the videos and I agree with you that Americans should stop complaining about other countries getting ahead and start advancing ourselves with the technology that is available. I like your idea for schools to have fundraisers to earn money for newer computers and better equipment. I talked to a friend of mine the other day and her son's teacher applied for a grant and was able to get an I-pad for every student in her class to use. They have a class blog and she said her son is enjoying it. I think teachers need to be aware that there is money available, they just need to know how to get it.

One thing I did notice about your post is that it appears to be the same post you may have used last semester. The date shows that it was posted in January. You also had quit a few spelling and capitalization errors. In you first paragraph, "United States" was not capitalized and it should always be capitalized. Also from your first paragraph, "Americas" should have been "Americans". You also had no clickable links and there was not a picture with this post. My advice to you would be if you have other posts from a previous semester, don't use them. You may get a new perspective by redoing your work.

    Good luck,
    Rachael Gordon

  4. Kabrina,
You had some relevant and interesting things to say about the parts of the post but they were cloudy by grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors, so it was hard to get to the bottom of what you were communicating. Also, I see that Elizabeth commented on this post from when you took the class before, giving you advice that you apparently did not take. You should have just done the post over, because he has changed the requirements for Blog Post #2 for this semester. You have the right to use your own work for this class, because it is your work, but you need to:
    1) make sure it goes with the instructions in the instruction manual,
    2) make sure to use any advice already commented on a post before publishing it a second time
    3) proof-read or get help in the Lab with your writing
    4) Incorporate clickable links (if you do not know how to do this, we will be glad to help you in the lab)
    5) follow the advice of your peers left on your blog; they are a helpful resource for improving, as we all have room for improvement.
Doing these things will help you tremendously. There is nothing wrong with the content, the ideas, in this post. They are very good, but the grammar and failure to follow directions only takes away from their effectiveness.
I have given you ways to improve and to make the most out of your assignments for this class and we are all willing and available to help you in the lab with whatever you need. Do not hesitate to ask us for help!
    Good Luck,
    Carly Pugh
